00:00Hey everybody, welcome to the Dano channel.
00:01I am Dano, and I'm back with another artsy-fartsy shoe
00:05painting video.
00:06This time, as you've probably seen by the title,
00:08it's going to be centered around Lady and the Tramp.
00:11And I also want to share with you a couple little tips
00:13about lighting in your painting.
00:15Now, these tips are meant for beginners.
00:17I'm no expert, but I just wanted to pass along my knowledge
00:20to you guys.
00:21Are you ready to learn?
00:22Are you ready to watch?
00:24Let's do it.
00:27OK, to start off this design, what I do
00:29is I take a little bit of ultramarine blue
00:31and some titanium white, and I actually
00:33cover the whole surface of the front of the shoe.
00:35Everywhere I'm going to be painting
00:36is, first off, covered with a nice thick layer of paint,
00:40just so I don't have to worry about all those little hairs.
00:42An alternate method, if you don't
00:43want to paint the whole surface, is to take a lighter to it
00:46and burn those little hairs off.
00:47Again, kids, if you're doing this,
00:49ask your parents for help.
00:50Don't play with lighters.
00:51But other than that, I'm going to get started here on Lady.
00:54And as I'm getting started, one thing
00:56I want to point out and really watch here
00:58is the use of yellows.
00:59Like, light yellows are going to be more
01:01towards the left of her face, and the darker colors
01:04are going to be more towards the right of her face.
01:06And the reason is because there's
01:07going to be a candle on that left shoe
01:09where my hand's covering.
01:11There's going to be a candle.
01:12That's our source of light.
01:13So as she's looking towards that candle,
01:15we want to make sure that everything in this,
01:17actually, you know, facing the candle
01:19is glowing a little bit more than everything
01:22not facing the candle.
01:23This is just one little way to kind of help
01:26elevate your paintings a little bit if you keep that in mind.
01:28Now, see, I'm not putting yellow on the outside.
01:31It's actually a light blue.
01:34So it kind of matches more with the night sky
01:36on the right side of her, but the left side of her
01:38facing the candle has this yellow glow.
01:41Now, as I start this shoe with Tramp on it,
01:44I do a similar thing.
01:45Now, he's not as much of a yellow dog.
01:47He's more of a gray-brown color.
01:49But I do really try to pay attention
01:51as to which parts are going to be lighter
01:53versus which are going to be darker, especially in his face.
01:56In fact, this first time as I'm painting his face,
01:58I don't like how it comes out, and I end up painting over it.
02:01You'll see in just a second, once I get the eyeballs in
02:03and I start playing around with it,
02:05I just don't like the shape of it.
02:06It looks a little weird.
02:08He looks a little too young almost,
02:10and he's kind of a scruffy dog.
02:11So sometimes you just have to scrap it and start all over.
02:15So you'll see here in just a second, his whole face,
02:17there it is, his whole face is completely just blotched over
02:20because I didn't like the way it came out.
02:22So I ended up repainting it and making it the way I wanted.
02:25Now here, I'm going to add that little strand of spaghetti.
02:27Again, I did a darker side and finished it off
02:30with a lighter portion.
02:31And to end off the shoe, what I like to do
02:33is take a little bit of light blue,
02:35and I put little blotches of light blue.
02:37And then I get my titanium white,
02:39and I fill it in to give those stars kind of a glow.
02:42It's a nice way to make stars and make
02:43them look a little more realistic.
02:45All right, guys, here they are, the lady in the tramp shoes
02:49and all their beautiful, glowy, starry night glory.
02:52I hope you guys enjoyed the tips on lighting,
02:54just to kind of make them pop a little bit more.
02:56Again, these are not for experts.
02:58People who are experts already know this stuff.
02:59This is for people who are just getting started.
03:01I know a lot of you ask me questions
03:03about how to do certain things.
03:04So as I go through the rest of the year,
03:06I'm going to actually be painting a lot more shoes,
03:08working with you guys.
03:09So as I paint them, I'm going to be recording myself
03:12and thinking of little tips to share with those of you who
03:14want to try painting on your own.
03:16Another thing I've done is I've thrown up my little concept
03:19image where I took the movie poster
03:20and put it over a picture of shoes.
03:22You can find that over at dano.net.
03:24It's what I personally use as a reference when painting.
03:27So if you guys want to download that image
03:29and use it as your own reference when trying this pair,
03:32have at it.
03:32I'm just here to share with you guys
03:34and maybe inspire you to do some yourself.
03:36Thank you guys so much for watching.
03:38I really appreciate it.
03:39Be sure to hit that thumbs up if you learned something new.

03:57And I would love to have you.
