Bimby can celebrate dad's birthday with James

MANILA -- Basketball star James Yap can celebrate his birthday next week with his son James "Bimby" Yap, Jr. after the athlete's ex-wife Kris Aquino gave her approval. In a recent interview, Yap said he has not seen his only child with Aquino for almost five months. But during the photo shoot for her morning show "Kris TV," the actress said she wants to stay "positive" for this year and allow the boy to celebrate his father's birthday on February 15. "Hindi naman kasalanan ng bata 'yon, hindi ko din kasalanan. Kasi hindi naman nakasaad sa batas. Walang legal o personal na dahilan to prevent him from visiting Bimb sa school," Aquino said in an interview. "I realized na 2014, let's be positive. So I asked Bimb, sabi ko, kasi birthday ni James (sa) February 15, so sabi ko, 'Honey, do you want to see your papa and celebrate his birthday with him?' Pumayag naman si Bimb. So it's really up to James. By all means walang problema, sa akin," Aquino said. Aquino and Yap were married in civil rites in July 2005 but their marriage was declared null in February last year, following allegations of infidelity on Yap's part. Last year, the former couple became embroiled in a controversy again in connection with the custody of Bimby and Yap's alleged spat with Aquino. After several court meetings, they eventually settled on a compromise which both parties described as beneficial to their son.
