MANILA – Lea Salonga said she agreed to record the theme song for the ABS-CBN fantasy series “Dyesebel” because of its originality. Speaking to ABS-CBN News’ MJ Felipe last Friday, Salonga said she is happy that she was able to “put my stamp on something brand new.” “No offense to anybody but a lot of teleserye theme songs are covers that have been released by other artists. They are excellent songs. But when you put a new spin on a cover, it’s still a cover. It’s not an original material. When this came, the exciting part was that it’s a brand new song,” she said. While the fantasy series is just a remake, Salonga said “it is exciting that the song is new. Hopefully I did a good job enough.” “I’m actually very happy. It was very exciting. Tita Charo (Santos-Concio) was very adamant. She said ‘I don’t care about your schedule. I will wait. I will wait for you, I need you to do this.’ But it’s you guys who are keeping me busy so kayo talaga ang maghihintay,” she said, laughing. Two weeks ago, Curtis expressed her desire to sing the theme song of her own series but said that she is already content with having one song in “Dyesebel’s” official soundtrack. "Siyempre pinangarap ko po. Pero tanggap na tanggap ko parang hindi naman maganda na habang duma-drama si Dyesebel ay boses ko ang naririnig, hindi ba?” she said. “Mayroon akong isang kanta doon tungkol sa karagatan, tungkol sa pagkakaibigan at tungkol sa kalikasan. Masaya na ako doon kahit hindi na theme song, basta may one song,” she added. Meanwhile, Salonga is hoping Curtis will be happy that she was chosen to record the theme song. “I have no idea that she knows. I honestly don’t know. If she knows, I hope she’s happy about it because it’s a big vehicle for her. If she’s happy that I’m doing it, then good. If she’s unhappy, well then that’s too bad,” she said. "Dyesebel" airs weeknights after "TV Patrol."
