World Cup: Italy, Costa Rica, Colombia win

MANILA, Philippines – England played some confident football in trying to find an equalizer, but their defense buckled down against Italy in a high quality World Cup match in the Amazon jungle. The match was tied 1-1 thanks to a Daniel Sturridge equalizer, but Mario Balotelli headed the decisive goal as Italy emerged winners, 2-1, to gain an early advantage in the tough Group D. Meanwhile, Costa Rica bagged a well-deserved 3-1 victory over Uruguay, and Colombia swept aside Greece, 3-0, to celebrate their first World Cup appearance since 1998. -- News Now, ANC, June 15, 2014.
