Miriam: 'Mr. E' has no illness except old age

MANILA - Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago on Wednesday criticized her political foe, Senator Juan Ponce Enrile, for allegedly using his age as an excuse to not go to jail on plunder and graft charges. Calling him "Mr. E", Santiago said Enrile is trying to portray himself as sickly, weak and too old to go to jail and should instead be placed under hospital arrest. She said giving Enrile preferential treatment would mean all prisoners who are senior citizens should be placed under hospital arrest. "He is asking for special treatment. Masyado namang garapal yan. Nung nagnakaw siya ng pera ng gobyerno, hindi naman siya nakihati. Ngayong hirap na siya, gusto niya siya lang ang hindi mahirapan. Bakit hindi siya makihati sa kahirapan nitong mga detention prisoners?" she asked.
