South Korea's foreign minister Kang Kyung-wha is touring two U.S. military bases in South Korea, Camp Humphreys and Osan Airbase.
The foreign ministry says Kang meant to visit the U.S. bases earlier to encourage the troops there, but she hasn't had the chance until now.
She will also meet with USFK Commander Robert Abrams, and the two are expected to reaffirm their strong alliance and emphasize the need for close coordination for peace and the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
They are also expected to touch upon the upcoming negotiations over the defense cost sharing deal for next year.
U.S. Ambassador to South Korea, Harry Harris is accompanying Kang on the tour.
