For the first time in almost 40 years, Iranian women will be able to attend a World Cup qualifier in Tehran next month.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino made the announcement on Sunday, adding it's important to move to the next level and to the next stage.
FIFA said it would be working with the Iranian football federation to develop plans for women to attend domestic matches in the Iranian league.
The Islamic Republic has banned female fans from stadiums since 1981 under the country's strict Islamic laws and customs.
FIFA had demanded Iran allow women to stadiums following news that a female Iranian set herself on fire to protest against her arrest for attending a game.
