The whistleblower complaint that prompted Democrats to launch an impeachment inquiry of U.S. President Donald Trump,... went public on Thursday, local time.
President Trump wasted no time firing back against the claims made in the report, calling it nothing more than a "Democratic Scam".
Yoon Jung-min reports.
The whistleblower report accuses President Trump of abusing his power to solicit a foreign power in the 2020 U.S. election against his main Democratic rival Joe Biden, and claims his administration tried to "lock down" the evidence.
The report, which was made public by the House Intelligence Committee, said Trump acted in his personal political interests, risking national security in the process.
The whistleblower expressed deep concerns that the actions described in the complaint constitute "a serious of flagrant problem, abuse, or violation of law or Executive Order."
It also insisted White House officials attempted to "lock down" the records,... saying President Trump's transcript of his phone call with the new president of Ukraine was loaded into a separate electronic system used to store classified information despite the fact it did not contain anything sensitive to national security.
Trump is facing an official impeachment inquiry led by the Democrats for allegedly pressuring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden, deemed his main contender for the 2020 presidential election, over corruption allegations facing Biden and his son, Hunter.
The report prompted a fierce reaction from President Trump,... who insists the impeachment move is a "Democratic Scam" and "Another Witch Hunt".
"It's a disgrace to our country. It's another witch hunt. Here we go again. It's Adam Schiff and his crew making up stories and sitting there like pious -- whatever you want to call them. It's just really a disgrace. It's a terrible thing for our country."
President Trump slammed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other leading Democrats,... publicly expressing his will to fight back to block the impeachment inquiry.
