Flames rip through a theme park in the Philippines as police investigate a suspected arson attack today (October 2).

The blaze broke out in a storeroom where cuddly toy prizes are kept at the Star City park in Pasay City in the Metro Manila area.

Twenty fire trucks arrived in the early hours of the morning to battle the blaze. Operators say it will be closed for up to a year while they repair it.

Pasay City Fire Marshal Superintendent Paul Pili said earlier this morning that about 60 per cent of the ground of the theme parks had already been destroyed by the fire.

The Bureau of Fire Protection said the fire may have been caused by arson.  Paul Pili said officers were investigating ''why different parts of Star City seemed to have started burning almost at the same time''

Lisa Macuja, the wife of Fred Elizalde, owner of Star City, said that the fire could prevent the theme park from re-opening.  "Star City will die,'' she said.
