We talk to her about how she recently collaborated with Ariana Grande and her writing team on a song for the new Charlie’s Angels movie soundtrack. Yes, Ariana Grande wrote a song for Kim Petras. No big deal! Not only is Kim extremely talented, she is SO sweet. We loved chatting with her!! For more music news, keep it right here on Hollywire.
Kim Petras, born August 27, 1992, in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, is a popular singer and songwriter, currently based in Los Angeles. At a young age, she gained much media attention for undergoing gender transition and since felt a responsibility toward her community as she continues to gain traction with her EDM and dance-pop tracks. Kim got started uploading covers to YouTube, but she quickly graduated to working with a producer on her debut single "Fade Away," released in 2008, by the time she was in her early teens. Her first EP, One Piece of Tape, followed in 2011. She also has collaborated with various artists having appeared as a featured singer on two 2013 singles by German DJ Klaas, "Flight to Paris" and “Heartbeat”, she’s lent vocals to Danity Kane's 2014 album DK3, and co-wrote the single "That's What's Up" from Skylar Stecker's 2015 debut LP This Is Me. She’s gone on to release her own stand-alone single “STFU" and in 2017 she re-emerged under her imprinted BunHead label with "I Don't Want It at All.” More singles followed in 2019 leading up to the release of her debut album, Clarity, that summer. The album featured the single "Icy," and input from Dr. Luke, and producers Made in China and Aaron Joseph. Kim has so much more in the works, having released another volume of her spooky Turn Off The Lights series. We’re excited for the more she has coming out!
