Syrian chefs from a restaurant in Faiyum, Egypt have made an 18-metre-long shawarma which they claim is a new world record.

Footage filmed on Friday (December 8) shows restaurant staff preparing the dish outside the venue.

The giant shawarma was then cut into pieces and given away for free to members of the public who had gathered to watch.

Shawarma is a dish in Middle Eastern cuisine consisting of meat cut into thin slices, stacked in a cone-like shape and roasted on a slowly-turning vertical rotisserie or spit.
