Muhammad Iqbal (November 9, 1877 – April 21, 1938), widely known as Allama Iqbal, was a Muslim poet and philosopher. He became the national poet of Pakistan. He is also known as the poet of East. He wrote poetry in Urdu and Persian.His vision of an independent state for the Muslims of British India was a starting point for the creation of Pakistan. He penned "Saare Jahan Se Achaa Hindustaan Hamara", and "Lab Pe Aati Hai Dua Ban Ke Tamanna Meri".

mata-e-be-baha hai dard-o-soz-e-arzumandi
maqam-e-bandagi de kar na lo shan-e-khudawandi
tere aazad bandon ki na yeh duniya na wo duniya
yahan marne ki pabandi wahan jine ki pabandi
hijab iksir hai aawara-e-ku-e-mohabbat ko
meri aatish ko bhadkati hai teri der-paiwandi
guzar-auqat kar leta hai ye koh o bayaban mein
ki shahin ke liye zillat hai kar-e-ashiyan-bandi
ye faizan-e-nazar tha ya ke maktab ki karamat thi
sikhae kis ne ismail ko aadab-e-farzandi
ziyarat-gah-e-ahl-e-azm-o-himmat hai lahad meri
ke khak-e-rah ko main ne bataya raaz-e-alwandi
meri mashshatgi ki kya zarurat husn-e-mani ko
ki fitrat khud-ba-khud karti hai lale ki hina-bandi

متاع بے بہا ہے درد و سوز آرزو مندي
مقام بندگي دے کر نہ لوں شان خداوندي
ترے آزاد بندوں کي نہ يہ دنيا ، نہ وہ دنيا
يہاں مرنے کي پابندي ، وہاں جينے کي پابندي
حجاب اکسير ہے آوارہ کوئے محبت کو
ميري آتش کو بھڑکاتي ہے تيري دير پيوندي
گزر اوقات کر ليتا ہے يہ کوہ و بياباں ميں
کہ شاہيں کے ليے ذلت ہے کار آشياں بندي
يہ فيضان نظر تھا يا کہ مکتب کي کرامت تھي
سکھائے کس نے اسمعيل کو آداب فرزندي
زيارت گاہ اہل عزم و ہمت ہے لحد ميري
کہ خاک راہ کو ميں نے بتايا راز الوندي
مري مشاطگي کي کيا ضرورت حسن معني کو
کہ فطرت خود بخود کرتي ہے لالے کي حنا بندي
