Soon after he reached China, he had to cross Taklimakan, the dreaded desert in the world.After the desert, he moved eastward, crossing lush grasslands and the Mongol Empire, finally reaching the city known as Shangdu of the Yuan, the summer capital of Kublai Khan. There he paid audience to the Mongol Khan, and won his trust. Then Marco Polo went south, and what he saw and heard during the trip meant a feast for him. At the same time, he was astonished by all of these.
