But experts say touching contaminated surfaces can still pose a risk. If someone coughs or sneezes on their hand and then touches a doorknob or a faucet the virus could survive for up to 72 hours, according to the study. It's important to wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Avoid touching your face and use disinfecting wipes to clean frequently used surfaces like doorknobs and your phone.
