The Congress on Friday listed out the grounds for moving the impeachment motion in Parliament against Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, with former minister Kapil Sibal saying it was done with a heavy heart. Sibal said, “wish this day had never come in the fabric of our constitutional framework.” He alleged that the CJI misused his post as the head of the judiciary, which amounts to “misbehaviour”.
“Since the day he (Dipak Misra) was appointed as CJI there have been questions raised in the manner in which he has dealt with certain cases,” Sibal said in a press conference.
With reference to the questions raised by the four senior-most judges recently on the decisions made by the CJI regarding assigning certain cases, he said that the judiciary’s independence was under threat.
