In this fast-paced world when money, career and social connections are the new religions, people often forget those persons whose sacrifices build the foundations of their growth. Ageing parents are often ignored or confined to old aged homes when children grow up and pursue their selfish interests. In the short film ‘Uppalam’ the protagonist Das is in a dilemma as all food and drink he has, tastes salt in it. Doctors and laboratory test could not identify the source of his problems. It took the psychologist Dr Moorthy and his hypnotism methods to identify the deep lying issue of guilt in Das’s mind for the neglect of his mother at her old age. His mother, his companion in his childhood, whom he never wanted to grow old has now grown old and thus unwanted. The sweat and toil of his mother had nourished Das in his growth. Now as he neglected her, the salt of his mother’s sweat haunts Das in everything he eats or drinks. This short film emphasizes an important lesson to all those humans who were once children, “To care for those who once cared for you is the highest honor one can have in one’s life”.
