Sara Drew, a conservator at Center Art Studio in New York City, explains how she restored a 180-year-old painting. Henry Wilkin's portrait of English opera singer Madame Lucia Elizabeth Vestris has accumulated thick layers of dirt and tobacco smoke on the surface after hanging in a Manhattan social club for years. The painting also has paint loss due to overcleaning by the last person who restored it and has tears that need to be repaired. Sara walks us through the steps of the restoration and reveals the finished restoration.
