Hong Kong police fired a water cannon as crowds protesting against the new national security law, enacted for the city yesterday. Police had banned the annual July 1 march, which has happened every year since the handover of Hong Kong back to China from British rule, however, hundreds of protesters defied the ban and turned up in the popular Causeway Bay shopping area.
