Possible HIV Remission And New Drug In Fight Against HIV

Two noteworthy announcements in the fight against HIV were made this week.
A possible case of long-term remission has been documented in a Brazillian man diagnosed with HIV 8 years ago.
He may be the first person to experience long-term HIV remission after being treated with only an antiviral drug regimen.
The second announcement is regarding a new investigational drug that has been found to be effective at HIV prevention.
The investigational drug cabotegravir injected every eight weeks was more effective at preventing HIV than daily oral pills.
The drug has not yet been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment or prevention of HIV.
