One year ago, on 21 July 2019, a mob dressed in white shirts, attacked protesters and travelers at Yuen Long MTR station. Hong Kong protesters have complained that despite 24,000 calls to the police, some policemen showed up 40 minutes later, leading to an accusation of collusion with the attackers.

Despite Hong Kong going through a severe third wave of COVID-19, protesters attempted to gather at Yoho Mall, in Yuen Long, near to the station where the incidents took place. The gathering was quickly smothered by riot police and fined 79 persons for violation of the prohibition of gathering before clearing the mall and the surrounding streets.

It was the occasion of some incidents with the press, where student journalists and social media "reporters" were fined under the same regulation on the prohibition of gathering. The legislator Ted Hui can also be seen being searched by the police during the clearance.
