Alcohol is absorbed into the bloodstream from the small intestine – the part of the bowel that starts where the stomach ends.
But according to HuffPost, how fast that alcohol is absorbed varies according to what was, or wasn't, in your stomach when you had the drink.
According to HuffPost, health professionals say that in general, it's far better to have a full or partially full stomach before ingesting alcohol.
That's because drinking on an empty stomach can lead to all sorts of problems.
If it hits your system too fast, you can become dizzy, have trouble coordinating your body movements, and struggle to think clearly.
In extreme situations, you may need to be hospitalized, or even die, from something called alcoholic ketoacidosis.
If you must drink on an empty stomach, keep your drinks light, watery, and creamy. A pina colada is far better than doing tequila shots. Scrounge for snacks. Cheers!
