Tributes to John Nkadimeng

Last week Ambassador John Nkadimeng died. As with many of his peers, it is difficult to sum up his contribution to the struggle. Nkadimeng was a true believer in workers' rights and he joined various trade unions to try and improve the lives of black workers under apartheid. He joined the ANC in 1950 and was a key figure in keeping it active in Swaziland and Mozambique. Nkadimeng was one of democratic South Africa’s first group of diplomats. Appointed South Africa’s Ambassador to Cuba in 1995. He has been awarded the ANC's highest order of the Isithwalandwe. Nkadimeng, who turned 93 in June, died on Thursday. President Ramaphosa has declared a Special Official Funeral: Category 1 in honour of Mr Nkadimeng which entails military honours. Mbhazima Shilowa and Ronnie Kasrils speak on how this giant of the struggle will be remembered.
