U.S. President Donald Trump says Hong Kong will never succeed as long as China continues to rule the region,... saying 'nobody's going to do business' with Hong Kong.
Washington is also accusing China of using its Confucius Institutes to spread Chinese propaganda around the world.

Speaking to Fox Business News on Thursday,... President Trump said Hong Kong's global financial center will "go to hell" under tightened Chinese rule,... adding the region can never succeed if China runs it.
According to the U.S. president, Hong Kong's markets will be negatively affected,... and "nobody's going to do business" with the semi-autonomous territory.
President Trump also said the end of their special status means Hong Kong would no longer have the ability to attract business and serve as one of the world's chief financial hubs,... along with New York and London.
In addition, in the latest sign of the deteriorating relationship between the U.S. and China,... Washington said on Thursday that it was requiring the center that manages the Chinese government-funded Confucius Institutes in the U.S. to be registered as a foreign mission.
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the Confucius Institute's U.S. center is "an entity advancing Beijing’s global propaganda and malign influence campaign on U.S. campuses and K-12 classrooms.”
However,... the top U.S. diplomat for East Asia, David Stilwell, says the dozens of Confucius Institutes would not be kicked out of the U.S.,... but added American universities should take a "hard look" at what they are doing on campus.
The actions come as the U.S. State and Education Departments last year promised stricter monitoring of the institutes,... which have been criticized in Congress as de facto propaganda arms of the Chinese Communist Party.
