A powerful magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck the Philippines - but this carefree pet dog carried on playing with his toy.

The Husky was relaxing on his owner's bed with a chewy toy when tremors shook the building in Davao Occidental province on Sunday night (September 5) at 11:23 p.m.

Many residents fled their homes just before midnight with locals recording buildings shaking in several cities.

However, the chilled-out pooch briefly looked up when he felt the bedroom rock and saw the fish tank shaking - before getting his head down again and carrying on playing with his toy.

Dog owner Paul Edison said he said he expected his dog to display its natural survival instincts but the pet casually continued to play with the bone while lying in bed.

Paul said: “He is too cute. I felt relieved that my dog is not panicking, but worried at the same time because I’m not sure anymore if Cyber has any survival instincts left from years of living with people.”

There were no immediate reports of injuries from the earthquake.

In San Marcelino town, Von Jabagaton recorded his home's lamps shaking. He said he could not decide whether to leave the house or look for a safe space inside when he felt the ground moving.

He said: ''I just stood there watching and filming. I went out of the house after a few moments.''
