In new German save-the-forest fight, migrant captain centre stage

Climate activists have been occupying part of the Dannenrod forest in central Germany in a bid to prevent the felling of trees to build a stretch of motorway. The eco warriors have built treehouses more than ten metres high to prevent the police from evicting them as well as to save the forest's ancient oak trees. Among them is Carola Rackete, the German ship captain who was hailed a hero by refugee campaigners after she defied the authorities to steer a migrant rescue vessel into an Italian port last year.
