Carriers

Lieutenant Theodore Ellyson served in the experimental development of naval aviation before WWI. Nicknamed 'Spuds', Ellyson was the first naval officer to be named an aviator. Naval attack carriers have been in service since that time. During World War II naval carriers travelled in packs of 17, stretching for 50 miles, and launching 1,000 planes into the air.
