Rahul Gandhi’s comment on May 26 served to further complicate matters in Maharashtra. Congress’s allies in the state's ruling coalition rubbished talk of a rift spurred by a series of meetings. Congress is only playing a supporting role in Maharashtra, Gandhi said during a virtual press conference. “I would like to make a differentiation here. We are supporting the government in Maharashtra, but we are not the key decision maker in Maharashtra,” said Rahul Gandhi. Later, Sharad Pawar's daughter Supriya Sule, an NCP MP, said Gandhi was absolutely right. The BJP, which has been accused for its desperation to return to power, made full use of Gandhi’s comment to attack the opposition. Signs of conflict in the Maharashtra alliance were powered by Sharad Pawar's meeting with Uddhav Thackeray on May 25 at the CM’s Mumbai home ‘Matoshree’. This visit came hours after Pawar met state Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari. Reportedly, Pawar is not happy with Thackeray’s reluctance to end the lockdown
