If traditionalism gets the support of modern machines and tools, then what can change, ask Sharanappa Shivaji Potter of Solapur, Maharashtra. Sharanappa, 45, runs a potter workshop in Engle township of Neelam Nagar in Solapur with his four brothers. Sharanappa got this legacy from his father. Traditional skills had been practiced for generations. In the same old way, first treading the soil with feet, turning the wooden chalk to shape the pots with wet clay, then heating them in a furnace. Sharanappa had been watching this since childhood and also became an expert in it. But in such a traditional way it takes a lot of time and very few earthen pots could be made. So Sharanappa discovered a new path that changed the life of the whole family. See this special report
