WARNING - take all sensible precautions, and don't let water get near the power supply. Don't let the wires touch each other whilst it's switched on, and don't touch the bare wires once it's switched on. A safer option might be to use a battery. ELECTRICITY CAN KILL! I wanted to show a friend how to "make" (obtain) hydrogen in a kitchen from tap water. We used a power supply, some wire, a plastic container and tap water. You can see the hydrogen bubbles coming from the wire connected to the negative terminal. Later on he wanted to add some salt to see what would happen - you can see the results in the video. The salt is not at all necessary to get the hydrogen, though.
