Tre americani, una donna e due uomini, arrivano a Napoli con l'intenzione di compiere il colpo della vita, svaligiare il tesoro di San Gennaro, valutato trenta miliardi di lire. Consigliati da don Vincenzo, assai potente anche dietro le sbarre, i ladruncoli americani si rivolgono ad Armando Girasole, venerato in tutti i quartieri bassi e chiamato affettuosamente Dudù. Ignaro dell'obiettivo, il napoletano raccoglie in fretta un manipolo di "specialisti"; ma quando gli viene svelato l'obiettivo del furto, Dudù, da buon napoletano, tentenna. Quando però si rende conto che con quei trenta miliardi potrebbe fare del bene ai napoletani, costruendo delle case per i più poveri al Vomero, inizia a ripensarci. Chiede consiglio a don Vincenzo, che a sua volta è in dubbio e preferisce demandare allo stesso San Gennaro la soluzione del caso morale. Dudù progetterà così il furto in concomitanza con il Festival canoro partenopeo, conscio che tutta la popolazione napoletana quella sera sarà davanti ai teleschermi.
