Well, today let’s begin with a trivia:
Identify the actor for whom age is literally just a number and who goes by nicknames like ‘Lakhan’ or ‘Mr. India’.
Yes, you guessed it absolutely right, today we will know more about the actor Anil Kapoor.
Born on December 24, 1956 to parents- Nirmal Kapoor and film producer Surinder Kapoor, who knew this young lad would grow to be such a versatile actor with his name written in some famed Hollywood movies and TV series’ too.
Kapoor pursued his studies in ‘our lady of perpetual succor high school, Mumbai’, continuing in Xavier’s college Mumbai, however, he dropped-out of college.
Even before entering Bollywood, Kapoor debuted with a Telugu film, Vamsa Vruksham back in the year 1980 as a lead actor and then later in that same year, he appeared in two Hindi movies - Ek Baar Kaho and Hum Paanch in much smaller roles.
He then debuted with ‘Who Saat Din’ in the Hindi cinema alongside actress Padmini Kolhapure and actor Naseeruddin Shah in 1983.
And that’s the beginning of a legacy of almost around four decades of creating history on the big office.
He received his first Filmfare Award for the Best Supporting Actor in Yash Chopra's Mashaal in 1984 and later earned another - Filmfare Best Actor Award for his performance in N. Chandra's Tezaab in 1988 and that’s not it, he was also awarded for his performance in Indra Kumar's Beta in 1992.
During his winning streak, Kapoor married Sunita Bhavnani in 1984, a costume designer with whom he has two daughters and a son. Their elder daughter Sonam Kapoor and their youngest son Harshvardhan Kapoor are actors too while daughter Rhea Kapoor is a film producer and now owns a fashion like ‘Rheson’ alongside sister Sonam Kapoor.
AK subsequently starred in many other critically and commercially successful films, including Meri Jung , Yudh, Karma, Janbaaz, Aap Ke Saath and Mr. India.
Here’s a Fun fact; did you know Anil Kapoor was not even the first choice as an actor for the film! Yes, you heard that right, instead megastar Amitabh Bachchan was chosen to be the lead actor. But as it turns out Kapoor had his ‘stars’ at the right place.
Adding to his blockbuster list were movies like Ghar Ho To Aisa, Awaargi , Benaam Badsha, Virasat and Pukar- which also earned him a National Film Award for Best Actor.
2008 began with a bang for the actor, how, well who doesn’t remember Kapoor turning into that global icon with his first role on an international platform with filmmaker Danny Boyle's Academy Award-winning film Slumdog Millionaire. He then appeared in Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol and the crime-thriller television series, 24.
