Bartholome Point is located off the Coast of Bartholome Island, a volcanic islet in the Galapagos Islands group, just off the east coast of Santiago Island. This island, and Sulivan Bay on Santiago Island, are named after naturalist and life-long friend of Charles Darwin, Sir Bartholomew James Sulivan, who was a Lieutenant aboard HMS Beagle.
Bartholomew island is not only known for its amazing dive sites, but it’s also home to some of the most breath-taking sites on land. With a total land area of just 1.2 sq km, this island offers some of the most beautiful landscapes in the archipelago. The island consists of an extinct volcano and a variety of red, orange, green, and glistening black volcanic formations.
However, diving at Bartholomew Point is an extraordinary experience. This dive site is more for the adventurous divers out there, looking to see fascinating lava and rock formations as well as an incredible number of marine species.
This site is also home to incredible whizzing penguins on the surface, acrobatic sea lions, white-tip reef sharks, pelagic fish, reef fish, rays, and turtles.
Bartholomew’s Pinnacle Rock is known to provide amazing photographic opportunities for tourists. Also some scenes of Master and Commander where shot there.
