Thousands of teachers, private school management representatives & other non-teaching staff from various educational institutions carried out a protest in Bengaluru on February 23. The protest was against the state government’s order directing private schools to take a 30 per cent cut in fee. Staffers fear the diktat will affect their salaries. Eleven school associations supported the protest & estimates suggest at least 30,000 participated in the march from City KSR railway station to Freedom Park, where they congregated by 11 am. Parents & private schools have locked horns over the issue with the latter resisting the order and saying that they have to pay their staff despite the loss of income due to COVID-19.
