World Wildlife Day is celebrated annually on March 3. It is celebrated with an aim to analyse spread awareness about the "forest-based livelihoods”. It also promotes forest wildlife management models & practices that accommodate both human well-being & the long-term conservation of forests. In its proposal, the General Assembly reaffirmed the intrinsic value of wildlife and its various contributions. It includes ecological, genetic, social, economic, scientific, educational, cultural, recreational and aesthetic, to sustainable development & human welfare. General Assembly named March 3 as World Wildlife Day to raise awareness about the world's wildlife and flora and recognised the important role of CITES in ensuring that its international trade does not threaten the survival of the species. Theme for this year is: “Forests and Livelihoods: Sustaining People and Planet”.
