Sri Lanka’s government says it will ban the wearing of the burqa and close more than 1,000 Islamic schools, the latest actions affecting the country’s minority Muslim population.
The government had made covering the face temporarily illegal after the 2019 Easter Sunday bomb attacks.
Muslims see the moves as another way of marginalising their community in the majority-Buddhist country.
The government has denied it is targeting Muslims.
