Apple's Mac computers support multiple password protected users profile.

Each profile have its own programs, settings and files independent from other profiles on the same MacBook or iMac. Logging out of your profile before leaving the computer prevents other users of the same computer from accessing your files, programs and settings.

You can manually log off a Mac using a keyboard shortcut or a menu option. However, in some settings, you may want to set your Mac to automatically log off for you when you are away from your computer.

Option 1
Press "Shift+Cmd+Q" on the keyboard to activate the log-off dialog.
Click "Log Out" to close all of your open programs and log out.
Alternatively, press "Shift+Opt+Cmd+Q" to log out without viewing the dialog first.

Option 2
Click the Apple icon in the upper-left corner of the screen and then click "Log-out" to view the log-off dialog. Click "Log Out."

Option 3
Click the Apple menu in the upper_left corner of the screen and select "System Preferences." Click "Security" & check "Log out after 60 minutes of inactivity."
Adjust the value of the text area to change the automatic log-off time.
