AMU Covid Crisis 18 Professors Die In 20 Days, V-C Asks ICMR To Probe Possible New Strain
Second wave of novel coronavirus has created havoc in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh as 18 working professors of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) have reportedly died due to Covid-19 in the past 20 days. Some retired professors and their family members were also found infected.
Amid the spate of deaths, the AMU V-C has written to the ICMR requesting to study the infection. The Vice-Chancellor of the university suspects a virulent strain of Covid-19 behind the deaths. Few samples collected at the ICMR approved Covid-19 testing laboratory of the Department of Microbiology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in AMU have been sent for viral genome sequencing to the CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology in Delhi.
