Over a dozen shops and a municipal building were damaged at Devprayag market after a cloudburst hit the area in Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand on May 11. Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat tweeted that no life was lost in the incident. He has sought a detailed report from the district administration about the damage. Shops were closed & there was no public movement on roads due to the ongoing Covid-19 curfew. State Disaster Response Force personnel launched a search operation after the incident. As per the district disaster management control room, the cloudburst occurred in the upper reaches of Devprayag around 5 pm, leading to rise in water flow in a seasonal rivulet (gadera). Heavy flow of water in the rivulet damaged the buildings and took the debris to Alaknanda, officials said. Devprayag is the confluence of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers.
