After quitting acting, Matondkar joined the Indian National Congress in 2019. She contested from the Mumbai North constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha Election, but lost. She later resigned from the party, citing petty internal politics and joined Shiv Sena in presence of party president Uddhav Thackeray.
