The Oak Alley Plantation, located on the Mississippi River in Vacherie, Louisiana, is known for its 28 live oak trees. The equal row of trees create a picturesque pathway leading up to the “Big House.” The breathtaking trail was created entirely by enslaved labor around the year 1936 and was a massive, laborious undertaking. Today, Oak Alley, run by a non-profit, shares the history of the plantation and what the enslaved people had to endure through daily tours to visitors.
