'China MEGA DAM Opens For Business to Become World's Largest by Unit Capacity'
The world's largest dam by unit capacity is open for business after the first of its units - capable of storing up to one million kilowatts - began to turn.
The Baihetan Dam on the Jinsha River, a tributary of the Yangtze, is part of Chinese efforts to curb surging fossil fuel demand and bring about its ambition of carbon neutrality.
Each unit at the hydroelectric plant is capable of producing 150 kilowatt-hours of electricity within a single rotation - equivalent to the monthly electricity consumption of an ordinary family.
The opening came as China's ruling Communist Party prepares to celebrate its 100th anniversary this week.
