Tesla Files To Become An Electricity Provider In Texas

Tesla ($TSLA@US) wants to sell electricity directly to Texas customers. The company filed an application with the Public Utility Commission this month. The application follows the start of a battery by Tesla near Houston, aiming to connect a 100-megawatt energy storage system near the grid. Tesla has also built several utility-scale energy storage systems worldwide, including one east of Los Angeles and two in Australia. However, Tesla hasn’t functioned as the retail electricity provider for these systems. Instead, big batteries built by Tesla help other companies in energy generation, storage and consumption.
