The U.S. Federal Trade Commission banned stalker were app SpyFone after its secretly installed software was found to harvest data on phone use and physical movement. SpyFone sold real-time access to secret surveillance and allowed abusers to track potential victims without their knowledge. The company’s lax security practices also put people being followed at risk by opening their devices to attacks from cybercriminals. The FTC ordered SpyFone to destroy all illegally collected data and notify affected device owners the app had been secretly installed.
