Primoz Roglic won Vuelta a Espana for a third year in succession after leading the way in Sunday's individual time trial, which was the climax of this year's race.

The Slovenian completed stage 21's 33.8-kilometre course from Padron to Santiago de Compostela in 44 minutes and two seconds to clinch the red jersey for a third time.

Denmark's Magnus Cort Nielsen, who won three stages in this year's race, finished 14 seconds behind Roglic in second place, while Thymen Arensman of the Netherlands was 51 seconds off the pace in third.

Jumbo-Visma rider Roglic ended the race four minutes and 42 seconds clear of Spaniard Enric Mas Nicolau at the top of the general classification, while Australian rider Jack Haig completed the overall top three.
