NASA has now announced its Artemis Team, the group of astronauts that are part of the Artemis Program that leads the mission to return to the Moon.
Those 18 astronauts will be preparing the lunar mission which includes sending the first woman and next man to walk on the lunar surface in 2024. The team will be joined by international partners later.
The Artemis Program will launch an uncrewed spaceship in August 2021 that will be followed by a crewed mission in lunar orbit in 2023. Artemis 3 will then take the crew back down the surface.
Among the Artemis team we can find a few veterans of previous and current space missions and also new recruits from the 2017 class. We can count as veterans Christina Koch and Jessica Meir who performed the first all-women spacewalk in 2019.
They all will help developing the landing systems, training and hardware requirements.
This mission is a step towards further space exploration and Mars!
