Distinctive toucan from mountain forests in the Andes of Venezuela in the far northwest of Peru. Easy to identify with a black crown, dark bill, white throat, powder blue belly, and predominantly brownish upper parts. Found between 1,500 and 2,500 m, usually below the altitude range of the Gray-breasted Mountain-Toucan, but occasionally overlaps. Rare; usually found singly or in pairs in the forest canopy, often around fruit trees.
