The Glass, also known as Стекло or Stekló is a two episodes webseries about six gay women who live in Moscow. Conceived as a feature film cut in half, the work mixes the ideal aspirations of each character with is a subtle critique of their social environment, which avoids frontally condemning the traditional culture of Russian society.
María Al-Kais, the director of the series, said that the story was inspired by her own experience and the desires of her close friends. Initially scheduled for television, the program was aborted because of its incredibly realistic approach to sapphism. In the light of the warm welcome accorded to both films in Russia and Europe, we all realized that The Glass-filled a void, a flagrant lack of LBQ representation in the country.
