PRINCESS Maria was born without a nose. Three-year-old Maria, from Ipatinga, Brazil, was born with Bosma arhinia microphthalmia (BAM) Syndrome - an extremely rare genetic condition reportedly known to affect less than 100 people worldwide. Her condition meant she was born without a nose or left eye. Maria has issues with her vision in her right eye and underwent a tracheostomy the day she was born. Maria’s mother, Daniele, 39, refers to her as ‘Princess’. She is raising funds to cover Maria’s day-to-day treatments and hopes her daughter can undergo nasal reconstruction or be fitted with a prosthetic nose implant when she is a bit older. Daniele said: “I want her to remain the warrior that she is, that she’ll be able to look back on everything she’s been through already, in order to see that any difficulties she might face are nothing compared to everything she’s overcome already.”
