"This is my horse, Frieda, whom I brought from Scotland to Corfu with me a few years ago when I left my abusive marriage," the subject, Madeline Barry wrote. "She is what got me through that time. I probably wouldn’t be where I am right now, doing all this rescue work and helping animals, if Frieda wasn’t there.
"Me rescuing horses is my way of giving back to them after they saved me."
