On June 6, more nations like the United Arab Emirates, Maldives, Jordan and Indonesia joined the countries criticising remarks on Prophet Mohammad by BJP leaders Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal. Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Libya, Afghanistan, Pakistan and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation also criticised the comments. On June 5, Qatar, Kuwait and Iran had summoned Indian envoys, condemning the remarks made against Prophet Mohammad. There were widespread calls on social media to boycott Indian products in Gulf countries. India said that the remarks were made by fringe elements and did not reflect the government's opinion. On June 5, BJP suspended party spokesperson Nupur Sharma and expelled Naveen Kumar Jindal over their comments on Prophet Mohammad.
